UAE celebrates unity and heritage on National Day — what Eid Al Etihad means

The United Arab Emirates celebrates its national day annually, Eid Al Etihad, also known as the UAE National Day, on December 2. The day is about the unification of the seven emirates into a federation in 1971 under the guidance of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The celebrations are pretty much the same all over the country and in fact they include fireworks, car rallies, cultural dance performances, military parades and air shows. Many of the landmarks drag on the colours of the UAE flag and public places ranging from malls to heritage villages are decorated to celebrate their common past.
It is a time of great patriotism and the people of UAE have a look back at it. The day serves as a reminder to citizens and residents of the transition from separate emirates under British protection to a united, progressive country.
People get together, the streets are decorated and the communities celebrate the great virtues of diversity and unity. Eid Al Etihad is not just a holiday for the UAE, it is a moment of national identity and collective vision.
