A Technically Grounded Educational Leader – Dr. Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz Altuwaijry: Advancing a Future Ready Academic Ecosystem in Saudi Arabia

True education prepares the mind to meet the challenges of an everchanging world. It blends subjective learning with objective experience to instill deeper understanding and lasting growth.. These qualities enable individuals to perceive reality as it truly is and equip them to solve problems of any scale or complexity, regardless of the challenges involved. To impart such real education to every budding mind, there is a constant need for the most outstanding leaders who can transform the entire academic ecosystem. Meet Dr. Fahad Bin Abdul-Aziz Altuwaijry. He has been contributing to the educational transformation in Saudi Arabia drawing on his experience across academia, government, and the private sector for over three decades.

From Individual Impact to Shaping Generations

Dr. Fahad’s career shows a steady progression from individual academic influence to shaping educational systems on a larger scale. With over 35 years of experience, he combines deep technical knowledge with extensive leadership across multiple sectors. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a PhD in Cryptography, a field that enhanced his understanding of complex digital systems during a time when technology was beginning to transform society.

During his early academic years, he served as an associate professor and department head at the College of Technology in Riyadh, contributing research in cryptography and information security. These experiences reinforced his appreciation for the impact educators can have on learners. His transition to public service expanded this perspective, enabling him to contribute to national initiatives that aligned education with labor market needs.

Later, while leading transformation initiatives at the Colleges of Excellence (CoE), he intensified his focus on operational excellence, quality improvement, revenue diversification, and building sustainable institutions that can stand the test of time. Dr. Fahad believes that education is a responsibility to shape the future, not merely to deliver a curriculum. “We must enable students to thrive by aligning their growth with the needs of tomorrow.”

Transitioning from the Classroom to National Impact

During his twelve years as Deputy Governor of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC), Dr. Fahad worked on national programs aimed at strengthening the connection between education and workforce requirements. This period reinforced his belief that learning must be closely aligned with economic realities and future skills. Between 2004 and 2016, he contributed to shaping pathways that prepared learners for specialized and technical fields, while maintaining alignment with international standards through participation in scientific and professional organizations.

Going Beyond the Conventional Boundaries

Dr. Fahad has spent fifteen years in senior leadership roles in the private sector, including positions as Managing Director and CEO of major organizations such as Al Jeraisy for Education and Training Services and Harf Information Technology. He later served as CEO of Colleges of Excellence from 2016 to 2020, where he focused on elevating the quality of higher education and strengthening institutional performance.

Since December 2021, he has served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ataa Educational Company, where he continues to advance educational models that integrate academic rigour with real-world relevance. “A leader in education must be able to see the future of the labour market and prepare the next generation to meet those challenges with confidence and skill.” His leadership philosophy emphasizes preparing students for the future by aligning learning with emerging labor market needs and national priorities.

His commitment extends to supporting diverse learner groups, including individuals with special needs, ensuring they have opportunities to participate meaningfully in the workforce. He has also strengthened his leadership capabilities through executive programs at the University of Michigan, focusing on strategic leadership and negotiation.

Fluent in both Arabic and English, Dr. Fahad uses his voice to advocate for an academic system that is both technically advanced and deeply human. He remains a prominent figure in the effort to make education more practical and inclusive for all. His work continues to evolve as he looks for new ways to integrate technology into learning while making sure no student is left behind.

Building a Future-Ready Ecosystem

Today, at Ataa Educational Company, Dr. Fahad’s diverse experiences converge into a clear visionbuilding a scalable, future ready educational ecosystem that combines academic excellence, innovation, and real world relevance. This mission aligns with the long term ambitions of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

He views schools as environments that must equip students with critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability. His approach bridges traditional education with modern learning experiences while ensuring alignment with national identity and values.

Ultimately, his goal is to contribute to the development of human capital that supports the Kingdom’s global competitiveness. “We are bridging the gap between the classroom and the world. By integrating technology and experiential learning, we prepare our youth for a landscape that is constantly changing.”

Technology as a Strategic Enabler

As digital transformation accelerates globally, Dr. Fahad approaches technology as a strategic enabler rather than an add on. At Ataa, he has overseen the development of an integrated digital ecosystem that supports both teaching and operations. This includes advanced learning platforms, smart classrooms, and data systems that personalize learning and support informed decision making.

Ataa is also incorporating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and immersive learning tools to enhance engagement and build future ready skills. Central to this transformation is teacher enablement. Dr. Fahad emphasizes that technology creates value only when educators are equipped to use it effectively, which is why Ataa invests significantly in training and support. “Technology is the engine, but the teacher is the driver. We invest in our educators so that every digital tool we introduce serves the human heart of the classroom.”

Scaling Excellence Through Disciplined Systems

Managing a large network of educational complexes requires disciplined systems and a strong organizational culture. Under Dr. Fahad’s leadership, Ataa has implemented a unified operating model that ensures consistency across all schools. This includes standardized curricula, clear performance indicators, and a rigorous quality assurance framework.

He also prioritizes continuous professional development and a culture of accountability. By relying on data and stakeholder feedback, Ataa maintains a cycle of ongoing improvement. For Dr. Fahad, excellence is achieved through aligned systems and empowered educators working toward shared standards. “Quality is not an accident of small-scale success; it is the result of disciplined systems and a culture where every person feels responsible for the outcome.”

Digital Trust and the Security of Knowledge

With his background in cryptography and information security, Dr. Fahad places strong emphasis on digital trust. He recognizes that educational institutions handle sensitive data, and safeguarding this information is essential for maintaining credibility. At Ataa, cybersecurity is treated as a strategic priority embedded within the digital transformation agenda. “In a digital-first world, trust is our most valuable currency. Protecting a student’s data is just as important as protecting their right to learn.”

Global Competition Rooted in National Identity

Ataa balances global educational standards with Saudi cultural values. A notable example is the collaboration with the century old Buckswood School in the UK to establish its presence in the Kingdom. This partnership introduces an international model while ensuring alignment with local regulations and cultural expectations. Dr. Fahad believes students should be globally competitive while remaining grounded in their identity.

Bridging the Gap Between Learning and the Future

Dr. Fahad believes private education providers have a unique ability to adapt quickly to societal needs. At Ataa, he focuses on building strong academic foundations while nurturing essential future skills such as critical thinking, communication, and adaptability. Rather than preparing students for specific job roles prematurely, he prioritizes equipping them with the mindset and capabilities needed to navigate diverse future pathways.

This goal is achieved through enriched curricula and modern teaching approaches that support both academic achievement and personal development. Ultimately, he views the role of private education as ensuring that students are not only well-educated but also well-prepared to succeed in an increasingly complex world. By focusing on a well-rounded student experience, he bridges traditional learning and the evolving demands of the global market. “Education is not just about a degree; it is about the ability to navigate a world that hasn’t even been fully imagined yet. We must teach our students how to think, not just what to learn.”

Empowering the Cornerstone of Excellence

Teachers are central to Ataa’s success. Dr. Fahad invests heavily in continuous professional development, modern pedagogical training, and digital capability building. He has implemented structured performance management, coaching programs, and leadership development initiatives. He also encourages educators to obtain professional certification from the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC), ensuring alignment with national standards. This ensures that quality standards remain high and perfectly aligned with national requirements.

Innovation Through Global Knowledge Exchange

Dr. Fahad actively participates in international conferences and collaborations, viewing knowledge exchange as a catalyst for innovation. By engaging with global best practices and emerging trends, Ataa continuously refines its approach and strengthens its competitiveness. “Knowledge has no borders. When we exchange ideas with the world, we bring home the best solutions to build a brighter future for our own community.”

Leading Through Complexity and Change

Transforming large organizations requires clarity, governance, and effective communication. Dr. Fahad emphasizes building strong structures, empowering teams, and fostering a culture of accountability. By building the right structures and empowering his teams, he fosters a culture of accountability and adaptability. He views challenges as opportunities for growth when approached with discipline and purpose. “Real impact is measured not by what institutions accomplish in isolation, but by the individuals they help shape for the world.”

A Vision for the Arab World

Dr. Fahad encourages aspiring educators and leaders in the Arab world to embrace continuous improvement and think beyond traditional models. He believes the future requires leaders who balance strong values with innovation and who measure success by the individuals they help shape.

The Road Ahead for Ataa

Looking forward, the future of Ataa is defined by three strategic prioritiesadvancing digital transformation through AI integration, expanding through scalable partnerships, and enhancing the overall student experience. Dr. Fahad aims to build a model that is both scalable and sustainable, ensuring that Ataa remains a benchmark for educational excellence and contributes to a future ready society.
